In a project highly conscious of budget, upgrading existing service areas (kitchen, bathroom) and a connection to the garden were essential. As such, a sensitive connection between old and new fabric was critical in order to retain as much as possible to reduce costs and focus on the important elements of the brief improving overall amenity and function of the home.
A new entry and bedroom is created by inserting a piece of joinery that preserves the decorative ceilings. The garage, accessed by a shared driveway, has been considered a flexible space—opening to both the street and backyard to create adaptable programming and functionality.
