Curious Practice are part of the competition winning scheme for the final stages (3 and 4) of the Newcastle East End Renewal Project, created with the collaborative architectural team of SJB and Durbach Block Jaggers, with landscaping by COLA Studio.
Laing Lane Cafe is a public gesture to activate the eastern gateway of the continuous lane stretching across all 4 stages of the East End re-development. The building provides valuable fine-grain pattern at street level that continues the long history of activated small shopfronts in the city’s streets. With a new stairway in the lane, the cafe building will also include a public accessible lift to negotiate the steep change between Newcomen and Morgan Streets.
